Dr. Sears is a licensed psychologist (Ohio #6272) who runs a small private practice in his office in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is board certified in clinical psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology. He conducts therapy for individuals, couples, and families for a wide variety of presenting issues. Dr. Sears is a full-time core faculty member of the Psy.D. Program in Clinical Psychology at Union Institute & University, clinical assistant professor at Wright State University School of Professional Psychology, clinical/research faculty at the University of Cincinnati Center for Integrative Health and Wellness, and Volunteer Associate Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Neurosciences at the UC College of Medicine. Dr. Sears is the Founding Director of the Center for Clinical Mindfulness and Meditation at Union Institute & University. He is lead author of Mindfulness in Clinical Practice and Consultation Skills for Mental Health Professionals. He is under contract for four new books: Mindfulness: Living Through Challenges and Enriching Your Life in this Moment (Wiley-Blackwell); Perspectives on Spirituality and Religion in Psychotherapy (with Alison Niblick, Professional Resource Press); Building Competence in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy: Transcripts and Insights for Working With Stress, Anxiety, Depression, and Other Problems (Routledge Mental Health); and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for PTSD (with Kathleen Chard, Wiley-Blackwell).
Dr. Sears is also a professional speaker who regularly presents across the country to organizations, mental health professionals, executives, and the general public.
Dr. Sears also performs consultation services for individuals, businesses, and non-profit agencies on a wide variety of topics, including executive and life coaching and development (which can be done over the telephone), strategic and tactical business planning, training and development workshops, mental health issues in the workplace, stress reduction, change management, and self-defense and security issues.
